3F 3.0: FUNGI FOCUSED FABRICATION

3F 3.0: Fungi Focused Fabrication – The Living Room

This seminar, part of Integrative Design Extremes, focuses on the collective creation of “The Living Room” furnished by mycelium-based elements. Working in groups, students will design and prototype complementary pieces such as seating, tables, storage, panels, or lighting, ensuring that each part contributes to a coherent whole.

Alongside their projects, students will also explore how to improve the performance and usability of mycelium composites through material tests and interface strategies.

The seminar combines hands-on experimentation with pre-grown mycelium composites and collaborative design methods. Students will design molds, test material behaviours, and investigate assembly logics that allow individual elements to connect into one shared installation.

The course culminates in finalised designs by mid-January 2026, with selected outcomes prepared for the Bolzano exhibition in February 2026, a Special Exhibition dedicated to FUNGI in the Natumuseum Südtirol, Museo di Scienze Naturali dell’Alto Adige (I).

This seminar explores the design and fabrication of mycelium-based furniture and interior elements as part of a collective installation called “The Living Room.”

Each group will develop one element (seating, table, storage, panels, lighting, etc.), ensuring the pieces are complementary and interconnected.

The most successful outcomes will be prepared for the Bolzano exhibition in February 2026.

The seminar is a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experiences, aiming to prepare students for the new paradigms of sustainable architectural practices.
